“A Sculptor as Philosopher: Scott Siken’s statues bring messages of hope. Siken’s unique perspective, the point of view he incorporates into every statue make him one of New York’s most noteworthy sculptors'.”

“Scott Siken, known as the philosopher sculptor has created high art reaching a 145 ft. into the sky, an eight foot figure of a jumper or flyer, commissioned for the Brooklyn Bridge Centennial, and low art, below the pavement of New York City down many staircases at the Union Square Subway Station called "Strap Hangers' Dance", two, eight foot expressive figures in a steel caged staircase to nowhere, on Union Square L Platform. This piece is about relationships, freedom and the human condition.   Although high and low, both pieces were deep, "Don't Jump; Fly!" , an anti-suicide figure, seen by children as a super flying hero, raised havoc from the neighborhood. People thought a person was jumping off the 145’ Column. Strange an oversized expressive sculpture frozen "forever" in a moment, could create an international reaction. “

“…Included with his humanistic images are three expressive life size sculptures of children.  One, “Child of Leaves” is created with leaves, an armature inside & a carved walnut wood base. The second figure is cement child and the third is also a life sized figure carved, then wrapped with barb-wire confining this child that stands on oversized wooden alphabet blocks. The sculpture is about Child Abuse & is titled, " Now I know my ABC's".   Even in pain or sadness there is a beauty of form, material and a sense of wonder in the philosopher artists consistent insight the oneness of all life.”
